Latin II
Grades 9-12
2 credits
Prerequisite: Latin I
Latin II completes the core grammar of Latin. Students will develop mastery of their linguistic skills by reading authentic, Roman-authored literature, which may include selections from the history of Livy, the commentaries of Caesar, and the Latin translation of Homer’s Iliad. Students will begin composition in Latin and will expand their knowledge of the ancient world through an introduction to ancient Greek. A key project will see them applying their knowledge of the ancient world to address problems faced by the Roman army. This project will help students develop skills of research and application core to the IB philosophy. They will also continue to grow in their faith through daily interactions with Latin Scripture and through a deeper look at famous Latin hymns.
