2021-22 Athletics Year in Review
On behalf of student-athletes, coaches and support staff, we welcome you to Guerin Catholic Athletics! At Guerin Catholic, we strongly believe in the role athletics plays in the development of a young person’s life and its lasting impact. We have a tremendous opportunity to help student-athletes discover their roles and God-given abilities while being challenged and pushed to be the best version of themselves. Guerin Catholic is proud to have phenomenal student-athletes, transformative coaches and a supportive community.
Students will have the opportunity to choose from 24 varsity sports during the course of their time at Guerin Catholic while over 75% of the student body will participate in a sport on an annual basis. The time spent on these teams are simply an extension of the classroom and athletics provides an opportunity for both student-athletes and coaches to fulfill the mission of the school.
Guerin Catholic is also proud of the accomplishments of our Golden Eagles! Seven Golden Eagles teams have captured State Championships (Boys Basketball – 2012, 2015; Boys Soccer – 2013, 2014; Boys Lacrosse – 2021; Girls Lacrosse – 2022; Boys Golf – 2022). An additional twelve teams have reached the state finals in their respective sports while 34 individuals have qualified for the state finals in their respective sports. We are incredibly proud too, of our IHSAA Mental Attitude Award Winners who have displayed sportsmanship and character while competing at the highest level:
Hannah Barker – Girls Soccer (2010)
Doug Kaskie – Boys Soccer (2013)
Matt Labus – Boys Basketball (2015)
Quinn Gallagher – Boys Cross Country (2019)
Bridget Gallagher – Girls Cross Country (2022)
While championships often write the headlines, we know that our Golden Eagles teams are defined by the unwritten and untold stories of teammates competing with one another, investing in the success of a team over the individual, the relentless pursuit of a goal no matter the result and finding joy in doing something you love. Champions are developed and cultivated behind the scenes—at home, in the classroom and on the practice field. The Guerin Catholic definition of champions rests not in the trophy claimed, but in the journey that’s filled with moments of embracing camaraderie, overcoming adversity, grappling with the agony of defeat and creating everlasting memories.
Go Golden Eagles!!
