IB Chemistry SL
Grades 11-12
3 credits
Prerequisite: Biology I, Chemistry I (Honors), Physics (may be taken concurrently) and Algebra II (may be taken concurrently with this course).

Standard level IB Chemistry is a rigorous pre-university course in chemistry. The curriculum is grounded in concept-based teaching and learning, and is designed to foster critical thinking. As the course progresses, the combination of lecture and lab experiences will facilitate students in developing a familiarity with problem solving, lab techniques, scientific inquiry and the role of uncertainty and error in scientific investigations. Also, the application of technology to experimental processes will be explored. Finally, students will share their particular content expertise in a collaborative sciences project, and in an independently researched and designed lab project. This course is designed to prepare students for success in college chemistry. A list of topics covered can be provided upon request.
