12 IMPACT MAGAZINE • WINTER 2022 Capital Campaign “I knew one of the founding members of Guerin Catholic,” says John Kennedy. “He mentioned they were looking for teachers. Knowing that Karen came from a Catholic college with a science background, I encouraged her to apply for the job.” Soon enough, Karen accepted a teaching position within the Guerin Catholic science department where she continues to work as a chemistry teacher today. John, on the other hand, is a former member of the Guerin Catholic school board who has helped coach baseball and softball for the Golden Eagles. Twenty years ago, John and Karen Kennedy set out on a life-changing journey, as they moved from Washington, D.C. to Carmel, IN, with their three young children: Danny, Nick and Chloe. With no friends or family close by, the Kennedys found themselves in search of a new community to call home. In 2006 their prayers were answered when the Kennedy family found Guerin Catholic High School. “We’ve been at Guerin Catholic since its second year of existence. We’ve seen it grow from less than 200 students to nearly 800 students,” shares John. “Many of our relationships have been built through Guerin Catholic. It has really been our home away from home, and it continues to be even though our children have graduated.” Danny ’13, Nick ’16 and Chloe ’18 were collectively involved in both athletics and fine arts while attending Guerin Catholic. The school provided the Kennedy children with a strong spiritual foundation, along with a supportive network whose reach has extended far beyond the school’s walls.
