IMPACT 2019

The Bishop William L. Higi Leadership Award, named after Guerin Catholic’s founding Bishop, is presented annually to individuals who have exemplified their faith by taking risks and being a catalyst for transformational change in their community. Previous recipients include: 2017 Bishop Emeritus William L. Higi (Founding Bishop of Guerin Catholic) 2018 Chris Braun, Monsignor John Duncan, Gary Malone, and Scott Schutz 2019 Barbara (Barb) and John Gallina, Deborah and William (Willie) Wood Past recipients, in concert with Bishop Higi, had a vision of providing a Catholic high school education to those in the deanery and the Diocese of Lafayette. In the face of ruthless opposition and constant setbacks, they put their faith ahead of their fears and for the first time in sixty years, helped open a new Catholic high school in Indiana. As of today, more than 15 years after Guerin Catholic opened her doors, the school has been recognized consistently as one of the top Catholic high schools in the nation. This year the Bishop William L. Higi Leadership Award was expanded to the following three categories: Community, Faculty/Staff and Alumni. Congratulations to the winners of the 2020 Bishop William L. Higi Leadership Award, which will be presented at the Guerin Catholic Gala on Friday, February 7, 2020 at the Renaissance Indianapolis North Hotel. 4 IMPACT MAGAZINE • FALL 2019 Fr. Dale Ehrman COMMUNITY AWARD Currently the Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Cicero, Fr. Dale Ehrman was the Campus Minister when Guerin Catholic opened in 2004. Father Dale served in a number of leadership capacities at Guerin Catholic, but his primary focus of incorporating Catholic Identity into every aspect of the school remains his legacy. Father Dale set the foundation that has enabled Guerin Catholic to be continually recognized by the Cardinal Newman Society as one of the top Catholic High School’s in the Nation (see page 7 for Guerin Catholic’s most recent recognition).
