2019 AWARD HONOREES
Barbara (Barb) and John Gallina
Barb Gallina’s passion for the mission of Guerin Catholic is unsurpassed. A mainstay for the Fine Arts Department from their humble beginnings in the school’s cafeteria, Barb has transformed thousands of pieces of fabric into beautiful, ornate, costumes for the school’s musicals. Though a talented and expert seamstress, there has never been a task too humble for Barb. This attention to detail and quiet insistence that each participant, from the lead, to the stagehands, feel valued and loved, magnifies Barb’s character and servant’s heart.
John Gallina serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Anthem, Inc., one of the nation’s leading health benefits companies. Like Barb, his dedication to Guerin Catholic is unsurpassed. Having served as Presiding Officer of the Guerin Catholic School Governing Board for more than 8 years, John was instrumental in the school’s growth and development. Under his leadership Guerin Catholic was quickly recognized as one of the nation’s top Catholic high schools.
John and Barb have five children who have graduated from Guerin Catholic—Margaret ’08, Maria ’10, Nick ’14, Julie’ 17 and Adrianna ’18.
Deborah and William (Willie) Wood
Founder and CEO of DWA Healthcare Communications Group, Deborah Wood served as Guerin Catholic’s first Presiding Officer of the School Governing Board. Her leadership, vision and dedication to the mission of Guerin Catholic was evident as she graciously devoted herself to setting the foundation for the success of Hamilton County’s only Catholic High School. In addition to leading monthly marketing meetings with the administrators of the school, Deborah worked tirelessly with the various committee chairs to ensure sustained progress and growth for the state’s first new Catholic High School in over 35 years.
William (Willie) Wood’s fingerprint is forever etched in the Guerin Catholic Fine Arts Community. He has committed countless hours to assisting the students in all aspects of their fine arts endeavors. Willie too possesses a servant’s heart, quietly recognizing and attending to ALL of the needs of the children, ensuring they were all treated with dignity
and respect, regardless of their economic circumstances. Willie continues to nurture Guerin Catholic students as he has opened up his theatre, The CAT, in downtown Carmel, to many productions featuring Guerin Catholic alums.
Deborah and Willie have two children who graduated from Guerin Catholic—Miranda (Armie) ’09 and Christopher ’10.
