We are excited to announce that as of July 24, Guerin Catholic plans to begin the 2020-21 school year on August 14, in-person on our regular five-day schedule.
The Guerin Catholic plan was prayerfully developed with the safety of our students, teachers, staff, and families as our main priority. At all times, the Guerin Catholic leadership team has made and will make decisions and adjustments based on the safety of all while continuing to ensure that we execute our mission of serving students from diverse backgrounds and preparing them to be servant leaders through authentic faith formation, academic excellence, and student life opportunities. We all know our mission is best carried out in-person on our beautiful campus. The precautionary measures in our plan were developed with the goal of keeping our campus safe during this difficult time.
This plan for the 2020-21 school year was created with the best available information at the moment. As we know, this situation is fluid and our plan will evolve and be adjusted as new information on the COVID-19 pandemic becomes available. Guerin Catholic will continue to engage and communicate with the Diocese of Lafayette, the Hamilton County Health Department, and our other education partners as part of this important process. This pandemic has hit us all very hard, and it will require us all to be flexible, communicate, trust, and work together to effectively execute our mission.
The environment and/or situation may dictate that we move from our in-person learning to a blended learning, or a total distance learning environment as the fall progresses. In order to prepare for this reality and to respond at a moment’s notice, we are refining details related to three potential levels of learning and instruction for this year, and we will closely monitor community transmission rates, our own absentee rate, and the guidance of the Hamilton County Health Department when making decisions related to each level. We aspire to have as many in-person days as possible this school year, but we have to be prepared to adjust with little notice.
Patience and grace will be appreciated as we navigate these uncharted waters. Our promise to you is that each and every day the faculty and staff at Guerin Catholic will continue to strive to “love the children first, then teach them” while keeping their safety and well-being at the forefront of our decisions.
