2022 Guerin Catholic Gala Fund-A-Need: St. Theodore Guerin Courtyard Statue

This year’s Fund-a-Need at the Guerin Catholic Gala on Friday, February 11, will go toward a statue of St. Theodore Guerin to be placed in the Dr. John Bates Outdoor Courtyard that links the two academic wings at Guerin Catholic.

The statue will be an exact replica of the statue at the school founded by Mother Guerin, St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in Terre Haute, Indiana. During their freshman year, all GC students walk in the footsteps of Mother Guerin during their retreat to St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

Guerin Catholic has commissioned Teresa Clark as the artist of the statue. Clark is the creator of the original statue at St. Mary-of-the-Woods. She also created Mother Theodore Statues for the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., the Sisters of Providence Mother House in Northwestern France, and All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Ill.

A non-religious person, Clark converted to Catholicism during her work on the original statue in 2006, stating, “I think she’s created me as much as I’ve created her,” when referencing Saint Theodore Guerin. “There were some late nights that I swear she was talking!” Clark is now a Providence Associate.

Guerin Catholic hopes to raise $50,000 for the 6-foot bronze statue.
