GCHS LEARNING DIFFERENCES PROGRAM

Guerin’s Learning Differences Program’s Policy on Psycho-educational testing:
- Public school testing and testing completed by the following 3 private organizations are accepted:
- St. Vincent’s Hospital
- St. Mary’s
- Children's Resource Group
- In order to be considered for acceptance into the Learning Difference Program, students must have psycho-educational testing
IEPs
- Public school IEPs are accepted
Basic Skills Class
- Specifically designed for students who have difficulty with basic skills and study strategies
- All freshmen in the program are encouraged to take this class for at least 1 trimester
- Some students in the Learning Differences Program take the Basic Skills class all 12 trimesters; some take it fewer. The decision is made by Jan Nichols as to how long a student needs this support
- The class is 70 minutes in length.
- Approximately half of the class is spent on learning basic skills
- The other half of the class is spent on resource support
Resource Program
- This program provides accommodations to students with learning differences and provides homework support/strategies for students in the Learning Differences Program
Foreign Language Requirement
- Students seeking a Core 40 diploma are encouraged to take a foreign language, but they are not required to do so
- Students seeking an Honors diploma are required to take a foreign language
Cost of Program
- There is no additional cost to be in the Learning Differences Program
Extended Time Granted on Placement Exam for Students Who Qualify
- Contact Office of Admissions at Guerin for documentation that is required for extended time on the Placement Exam
