Philosophy of Education
Guerin Catholic High School, founded as a Catholic diocesan high school, is committed to academic excellence. We believe that educational excellence is achieved through the offering of a rigorous and challenging curriculum taught by competent, enthusiastic, and caring faculty. The curriculum is college preparatory, which takes into account the individual learning styles, interests, and abilities of all students and provides for developing them.
Guerin Catholic High School promotes an acceptance of each one’s identity and provides all students with the challenge to grow mentally, physically, spiritually, morally, emotionally, and socially. Recognizing that a complete education includes both the development of self and the ability to grow within a group, Guerin Catholic High School actively fosters the talents of the individual and encourages a sense of community open to students of all races, religions, and ethnic backgrounds. Guerin Catholic High School enables its students to better understand and appreciate all people.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Core 40 Diploma
CORE 40 directs students toward achievement of life goals beyond high school. By defining requirements for success in future education and work, the Indiana CORE 40 curriculum is a set of courses that will prepare students for a strong future. Earning a CORE 40 diploma may qualify students for additional financial aid for college. Students at Guerin Catholic High School must earn 49 credits to earn a CORE 40 diploma.
Academic Honors Diploma
This diplom a institute d by the Indiana State Board of Education is intended to bring honor to those students who choose challenging courses and accumulate 56 credits as a student of Guerin Catholic High School. To be eligible for an Academic Honors diploma, a student must have a grade point average of 3.00 or above. The awarding of this diploma will be noted on the student’s transcript. No grade lower than a C- may count toward the diploma.
Learning Differences Program
PURPOSE
The learning differences program serves those students who have been identified by the school as at risk academically.
These students often need additional assistance in the developing academic and organizational skills, or, in some cases basic content area skills. These students may encounter problems in reading, writing, spelling and/or math skills due to conditions such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, or a specific language disability.
The goals of the program are to provide support for continued development of skills and to help each student become as independent a learner as possible through the increased knowledge of his or her strengths and weaknesses, application of appropriate study strategies, and growth toward self-advocacy.
ACCEPTANCE TO THE PROGRAM
In order to be accepted into the program and receive academic support services at Guerin Catholic, a student must have an individual educational plan (IEP) written by a public school system or a psychological-educational evaluation summary written by a licensed school psychologist designated by Guerin Catholic. This information will be reviewed by the program coordinator, guidance department, and academic administration at Guerin Catholic, and a private school plan will written. This private school plan will outline the services that Guerin Catholic will provide for the student A student’s participation in the learning differences program will be re-evaluated each year.
