The Learning Difference Program is for students who have a documented diagnosis that affects their ability to learn.  A Guerin Catholic Plan (Private School Plan, PSP) will be developed for each individual student based on his/her learning needs.  The Guerin Catholic Plan focuses on providing the student with specific accommodations to assist them with their academic challenges based on their diagnosis.  Guerin Catholic strives to meet the needs of all students; therefore it is the families' responsibility to participate in the program.  

Appropriate documentation to enroll in the Learning Difference Program considered when writing a Guerin Catholic Plan includes, but not limited, to the following:

  • Learning Differrence Application
  • Previous Private School Plan
  • Previous Public School Individual Education Plan
  • 504 Medical Plan
  • Psychological Education Testing
  • Appropriate Medical Documentation

Enrollment Procedure:

  • Submit the Guerin Catholic Application
  • Submit the Learning Difference Application 
  • Submit appropriate documentation
  • Initial meeting with student, parent(s), Learning Difference Instructor and Guidance Counselor
  • Guerin Catholic Plan developed and implemented

Student Accommodations:

  • Supplemental Notes
  • Extra time on lengthy  in-class reading and writing assignments
  • Large projects broken down into smaller segments
  • Use of laptop

Testing Accommodations:

  • Extented time (1.5
  • Word banks
  • Calculator use 
  • Approved help

Cost of Program

  • There is no additional cost to be in the Learning Differences Program

Extended Time Granted on Guerin Catholic Placement Exam for Students Who Qualify

  • Contact Office of Admissions at Guerin for documentation that is required for extended time on the Placement Exam

Academic Support:

Basic Skills Development is an academic support course for any student who is enrolled in the Learning Difference Program.  The course focuses on core academic subjects (Math/Language Arts) remediation, as well as, organization, time management, communication skills, study skills and test taking strategies.  Students are also given an opportunity for assistance with homework and testing preparation.
