Camp Purple reserves the right to change or cancel any camp or class. Efforts will be made to assign the campers affected to another camp or clinic if a cancellation or change occurs. A complete refund will be given in those cases where other placement is not possible. There will be NO REFUNDS for  Camp Purple withdraws made after May 31, 2013. Prior to that date, a refund, less $15 processing fee, will be granted.

Academy Film Camp

Summer Sing

Description:
Did you know that God has given everyone a musical instrument? It’s our very own voice!

This exciting and enriching weeklong camp for children, grades 5-8, focuses on using the voice as an instrument to make music. Activities will include learning how the voice works (vocal pedagogy), sight-reading musical notation (music literacy), and rehearsing and performing musical selections for our end-of-camp concert.

Every camper will receive his/her own packet of materials (folder, music, handouts, etc…) and a t-shirt. The end-of-camp concert will be held in the Cafetorium and all parents, family, and friends are free to attend! It should be a wonderful week of making music with new friends here at Guerin Catholic! Make plans now to join us!

Youth Summer Art Camp

Cost: $160.00


Description: 
The GCHS Summer Youth Art Camp will be conducted by GCHS art instructor Jonathan McClure. He will be assisted by IB art student Colleen Freiburger. The camp will consist of age specific projects driven by the elements of art. Through the course of the week, students will create several projects through exploration and use of black / white drawing media, color drawing media, watercolor, tempera paint, printmaking, mixed – media, and clay. Students will also tye-dye their own camp t-shirt. Camp will be held in the GCHS art studio.

Notes:

  • At least 12 campers are needed in each session to hold camp (or session will be cancelled);
  • Application for each session will close upon reaching 20 registered campers;
  • Cost of camp includes all supplies and camp t-shirt;
  • Each camper will need to bring a sack lunch / snack each day.

High School Placement Test Prep Course

Description: 
Students will receive instruction from a teacher with a PhD who tutors students for all standardized tests. Students will be given a test at the beginning of the week and a second one at the end of the week to gauge progress This course is a preparation course. The HSPT will still need to be taken in the fall.

Life Through a Lens

Description: 
We will learn how light, contrast and composition work together to produce striking digital images. Students will learn about their own camera as well as common equipment used by photographers. By working with their own camera, students will get personalized field-based instruction on how to improve their photography skills. All camera types are welcome! Learn tips and tricks for making the most of your camera – whether it’s a digital SLR, point-and-shoot, or even your smartphone – so that you never miss a moment!

Books will be available for pick-up approximately 10 days following the camp due to processing time frame.

Thinking Science Camp

Instructors: Guerin Catholic science teachers Karen Kennedy and Hugh Ross

Grades: Rising 5, 6, 7 graders (minimum 10 campers)


Description: 
The goal of this camp is to advance the students' scientific reasoning skills and to inspire their love of science.  The students will enjoy multiple hands-on science labs as well as large-scale demonstrations. The curriculum is based on "Thinking Science," a program originally piloted in England.  This program was documented to have a significant impact on students' future performance in science, math, and (surprisingly) language arts.

The Romans are Coming!!! -Latin Camp

The goal of this camp is introduce students to the life of the ancient Romans.  The students will enjoy multiple hands-on activities such as making their own toga and military weapon/s. Other areas for games and activities will include Roman mythology, history, Latin language, and Roman numerals.

Writing on the Wild Side!

Need to let your imagination run wild? Unleash those creative energies? Write with fewer boundaries and limited structure? If these questions pique your curiosity and writing interests, these four days will set your summer off in a creative direction. We will explore poetry and short stories – reading and writing. Students will contribute their original works to create a book to keep – a souvenir of their writing wonders! (Sentence structure and writing skills will also be reviewed to develop writing abilities.)

Coach Smith's Youth Camp is open to all boys who are entering 1st thru 9th grades in the 2013-2014 school year! Boys will have the opportunity to learn and develop their basketball skills in passing, rebounding, defense, footwork, and shooting. Good sportsmanship will be stressed while the fundamentals of the game of basketball are being taught and practiced. The camp will provide young athletes with an opportunity to become better lacrosse players with instruction from Guerin Catholic Coaching Staff

Don’t worry if you are a beginner or advanced player, you will be grouped by skill level and challenged so that you get the most out of each session. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to work on your skills in the off-season.  Each camper must provide their own mouthguard and water.  Optionally, you may bring your own stick and goggles if you have them.

St. Vincent Sports Performance provides strength & conditioning, athletic medical services, Sports Nutrition and Sport Psychology services to athletes across the world. SVSP is bringing many of those components to Guerin Catholic this summer in a four day, athletic camp, running from 9am to noon each day. In addition to providing education and drill work on speed, agility and strength development, this camp will also provide leadership and spiritual content in conjunction with the GCHS Campus Ministry and team leaders from GCHS sports teams. By incorporating all of these components that are consistent with the mission of both Guerin Catholic and St. Vincent, it offers one of the most unique athletic camp opportunities in the area.
